President Obama’s swearing in will be celebrated with the clink of “Korbel Natural Russian River Valley Champagne” which contravenes laws that only allow for sparkling wine produced in California to be called “California Champagne”

Director of the Champagne Bureau is reported to have said,

We would urge the inaugural committee to follow that law and not state the sparkling wine being served is Champagne, as they did in today’s release. Champagne only comes from Champagne, France.

The French have been told to put a cork in it.

It is the eighth time Russian River Valley fizz Korbel Natural has been served at a presidential inauguration; a tradition that began in 1985 with Ronald Regan.

South Africa’s Graham Beck was Obama’s “sparkling” of choice at his first inauguration party.
