The Green Dragon Pub was the favourite watering hole of many a hobbit, especially Bilbo Baggins along with Frodo and his fellowship, Sam, Merry and Pippin.
The famous pub is now open as a working pub to human patrons and other visitors to Hobbiton, near Matamata on New Zealand’s North Island.
The menu includes a variety of popular Hobbit ales like Girdle Fina Ale, Sackville Cider, Oak Barton and Siuthfarthing Ginger Ale.
New Zealand Prime Minister John Key was on hand to cut the ribbon with some of the actors from the movie franchise.
Manager, Russell Alexander says that he “estimates 100 000 visitors over the next year.
The pub was burnt down for the filming of The Return of The King but was rebuilt with a functioning fireplace, plumbing and water pipes for the filming of The Hobbit, An Unexpected Journey.
The new pub is intended to make the visiting experience to Hobbiton more Hobbit like.
