Nando’s get it right… this time, with #25Reasons to Love South Africa

Nando’s is asking its fans to reveal reasons to love South Africa in their latest campaign celebrating the chains 25th birthday.

The first of four TV adverts focused on our great athletes, particularly those in parking lots.

The second was titled, “Still telling stories around the fire” and now the third stereotypes the atrocious traditional dancing ability of white people in South Africa called the Nando’s Anthem.

As with all Nando’s Ad someone is going to be the brunt, this time it’s car guards

If only the trolley jump was an Olympic Sport!

A little wiki about Nando’s

Nando’s has its origins in Rosettenville, South Africa, where many Mozambicans of Portuguese origin relocated to Johannesburg following Mozambican independence in 1975.

The restaurant began in 1987 when Portuguese-Mozambicans Robert Brozin and Fernando Duarte bought a restaurant called Chickenland in Rosettenville, south of Johannesburg, renaming the the restaurant Nando’s, after Duarte.

The restaurant incorporated influences from former Portuguese colonists from Mozambique, many of whom had settled on the south-eastern side of Johannesburg, after Mozambican independence.

The logo is derived from the Rooster of Barcelos, a national Portuguese emblem.

The initial design and corporate identity was developed by Mark Bischoff and Bruce Gemmel.

Nando’s are encouraging to consumers to re-pin & tweet their favourite reasons from the Nando’s Pinterest. board, one of the first South African brands to drive a major campaign around Pinterest.

The most shared reasons by the 15th of October will get made into an online video and Nando’s vouchers will be given away randomly to #25reasons tweets/boards.

It is not often that Nando’s drives its campaigns around positive messaging so this is a slight departure from the norm while still maintaining it’s traditional light hearted look at life in South Africa.
