MasterChef SA contestant Babalwa Baartman is 27 years old and hails from Langa in Cape Town. She is an assistant buyer for Poetry, a clothing store.
The DSTV MasterChef SA bio describes Babalwa Baartman as growing up with ten brothers and sisters all around the country with her two-year old son being the apple of her eye. She declares an unbridled passion for food and loves cooking traditional South African ‘kos’. Babalwa also loves to eat meat, “It’s a genetic thing!” she jokes and has a taste for food that reminds her of home. As far as the competition is concerned she says she’ll stick to “what she knows” but will “take it to another level.”
She also says that she’s always been curious as to what was going on in the kitchen and as a young girl would always try to help out.
Her ideal restaurant is a place where people can eat food that reminds them of home and caters for young professionals who don’t have time to cook at home.
Babalwa Baartman’s strategy for winning MasterChef is to stick to what she knows but up her game as much as possible with the emphasis on comfort food.
