Meet the Bacon Queen as the Des Moines Bacon Festival becomes the hottest ticket in town

What started out as a quirky idea a few years ago, the Bacon Festival in Des Moines, Iowa has become one of the hottest tickets in the mid-west town.

Eight thousand tickets were sold in three minutes for the 2013 edition and is the place to be when the festival comes to town. Attendance figures have doubled every year since it began in a down-town bar.

Every year a Bacon Queen is selected from a fair number of willing participants with the winner getting to wear the Bacon Queen Dress.

The annual event featured more than 5 tons of bacon served in myriad of unusual and blue sky ways like chocolate-dipped bacon, bacon flavoured cupcakes and bacon ice cream.

Festival co-founder Brooks Reynolds, said it’s become the largest bacon showcase in the world and calls it a “bacon fellowship”.

More importantly how would you feel if you Valentines Day date pitched up in this little number?
