Wellington’s Diemersfontein Wine Estate pulls out all the stops (and corks) for a day of free-flowing entertainment
Get your drinking glasses ready and mark your calendar, Cape Town’s annual Pinotage pilgrimage – Pinotage on Tap – returns to Diemersfontein Wine Estate on Saturday, 13 October 2012. Often referred to as the best party on the winelands calendar, this event has grown from small potatoes to a massive and much-anticipated day of fun in the sun.
For those Pinotage aficiandos who also happen to be POT (the festival’s acronym) virgins, you can rest assured that you won’t regret your ticket purchase. Here’s a run-down of how it works and what you can expect.
What to expect from 2012 Pinotage on Tap
As always, first and foremost Pinotage on Tap marks the celebration of the newest Diemersfontein Pinotage vintage. Thus above all else, festival-goers can look forward to no less than eight, seemingly bottomless, oak barrels prepped and prime for the drinking. There’s also usually at least one or two barrels of a white wine, as well.
The popular chocolate fountain will make a welcomed return, and a well-paired musical line-up is also, yet again, on the cards: GoodLuck is the headline act at this year’s party, and Albert Frost and Gerald Clark are also on the bill. Apart from the free-flowing wine, a snack pack and canapés, a number of meals are available throughout the day, as are plenty of games and entertainment.
How it works
Your ticket includes access to the festival bottomless Pinotage, canapés and lunch. Barrels of wine will be stationed in every nook and cranny, and be sure to watch out for the dessert table, with chocolate fondues, marshmallows, strawberries and meringues (also included in ticket price). If you’re still feeling a tad peckish after the substantial lunch on offer, there will be other food stalls available.
Tickets are available through Computicket.com and go on sale Monday, 2 July 2012, book early as numbers will be strictly limited. Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and doors open at 12h30. There are no ATMs on site but card facilities are available.
For those who’d like to make the “Take the Bus to POT” pilgrimage with fellow Pinotage lovers, there’s a park and ride facility available. Book your ride with FS Tours – contact them at 021-6713267 or email [email protected] Tickets are R165p/p and no one-way tickets are available.
