Lwazi Mngoma bows out of MasterChef SA in episode six after third pressure test in a row.
The writing had been on the kitchen wall for a few weeks now, after having survived two pressure tests. This third and final test with Andrew Atkinson’s Gold Medal winning Salmon Three Ways Recipe was one recipe too far as it stretched his culinary abilities to the limits.
Lwazi had found himself in the bottom three after failing miserably with his curry recipe. Having contracted a flu bug his taste buds had deserted him, leaving him stranded in the kitchen not knowing which way to turn. He bravely attempted to produce a curry recipe worthy of MasterChef status but with little or no sensory capacity Lwazi was unsure as to what his food really tasted like.
It was left to MasterChef Judge, Pete Goffe-Wood to let him know in no uncertain terms exactly how bad it was and it left a bitter tastes in Pete’s mouth both figuratively and literally speaking.
The resulting pressure test and its Salmon Three Ways Recipe was as Lwazi put it “so far beyond my scope of experience, everything was difficult”.
For his poached salmon the oil was too hot and it caused the fish to over cook and become too firm. The Teryiaki was under cooked and Tartar under seasoned. Given how he battled with the curry, the last fault is not too surprising.
Sue-Ann Allen did not fare too well either but Lwazi has consistently found himself in the bottom half of the competition and left the judges with little choice but to ask for his MasterChef apron.
Lwazi can look back on his MasterChef journey with pride, he has not embarrassed himself
