Babalwa Baartman faced the judges along with Jade de Waal and Lungile Nhlanhla.
When Babalwa heard that they would be facing a braai challenge she took it in her stride saying that at the end of the day it’s food, it’s cooking and it’s got to taste good. She took all the ingredients that she was familiar with and took it from there, making it up as she went along. She whipped up a Paprika basted Springbok with roasted vegetables and in the end was not too happy with her presentation but felt comfortable with the taste.
Judge Benny Masekwameng said he got the charcoal flavour of the Springbok but wasn’t happy with the fact that it was cooked medium well. Judge Andrew Atkinson on the other hand was quite scathing about the fact that her Springbok looked like a braai briquette.
Benny Masekwameng said the the three of them were young and inexperienced and wanted to know if this would count against them. Jade took up the mantle as group spokesperson and fortunately the judges agreed with her and Babalwa made it through to into the MasterChef kitchen for episode four.
