Sun triggers vodka fire at liquor store

Sunlight coming in through the windows of Red Lion Liquors was magnified as is passed through the clear bottles of Karkov Vodka which essentially acted like a magnifying glass.

The heat was so intensely focused on the cardboard display behind the vodka that it eventually caught fire. The heat from the flames forced the vodka bottle tops to fly off and as the vodka splashed about it literally added more fuel to the fire.

Fortunately CCTV footage caught all the action so they were easily able to determine the cause of the fire.

The store manager Dave Hautman said,

We have shades on the windows. We’ll pull them down on sunny days to protect the wine on the shelves, never thinking it would ever start a fire.

Even the Burnsville fire marshal had never seen anything like it while watching the CCTV footage Dave added,

The firefighters were standing next to me like they were watching a new video game. They were going, ‘This is so cool!

The liquor store was closed for two weeks while it was refurbished and had the windows tinted.
