Written by MasterChef SA Judge Benny Masekwameng grew up in Alexandra where at 8 years old he began fiddling in the kitchen, helping his mother who ran a little catering business.
With that wealth of experience behind him he went on to catering school and has since accumulated 14 years of experience in the industry. Seven of which were spent working his way up the Hilton Group and then on to Mondo Vino where he is now the Executive Chef.
He has cooked meals for politicians Fidel Castro, Muammar Gaddafi, Jacob Zuma and also international celebrities Beyonce and Jay Z. He describes the food that he grew up with, pigs trotters, stews, spinach and sugar beans as being closest to his heart.
When it comes to the search for South Africa’s first ever MasterChef he is looking for a person that is creative, loves food and is able to show their personality in the food that they present and really wants to win so that they can pursue their dream..
