Dinner Divas Round Nine! Its a big one as three bloggers battle it out for a place in the finals

It’s bad enough when it’s ‘one on one’ but in the last semi final three bloggers, Kristy Snell, Nina Timm and Janice Tripepi battle it out.

Krsity Snell of Foodmonger has been a bit of a surprise package in this competition, she came up against veteran Nina Timm in round one of Dinner Divas where the judges were unable to separate them and the both went through to the semi finals. [Watch the full episode]

She loves making, styling, photographing and eating food, is a freelance food stylist and whenever she can will spend time behind her camera taking photographs for her blog.

She lives with her boyfriend in Vredehoek, Cape Town.

Her blog is a showcase of her food adventures, where they take her and what she has learnt.

For the semi finals Kristy is preparing a Christmas Feast!

Food is more than simply a sustenance; it is love, family, pride and a wonderfully unifying element – every family celebration is revolved around food. Christmas, like no other celebration, embodies this the best: a day that families and friends unite for one glorious day of over-indulgence.

A day that sisters’ that usually fight are suddenly best friends; a day that cooking three roasts is completely acceptable (and expected); a day that ends when the last drop of wine is drunk and the leftover food is packed away for boxing day snacks.

A day of excess: where food and love knows no limit. In short: it’s my favourite day!

Kristy’s Menu – Christmas Lunch

Spinach and Butternut Rotolo with a burnt butter and sage sauce
Spiced Duck Breast with a Sweet and Sour Orange and Green Peppercorn Sauce
Dauphinoise potatoes
Wokked Spinach
Pork and Peach Stuffing
Apple Tarte Tatin

Nina and Kristy give each other a high five as they both go through to the semi’s. Will they be high fiving each other again on Saturday morning or will it end in tears?

Janice Tripepi of janicetripepi.co.za is a true Italian Momma, when you meet her you will instantly connect with her maternal instinct and that is always represented in her food, comforting, caring and most importantly fulfilling.

This inspirational blogger hails from Durban, a city not known as a culinary haven and she blasted her way through to the semi finals getting all three of the judges votes beating talented Thuli Golgela of Mzanzi Style Cuisine, for whom on the day it simply did not work. [Watch the full episode]

For her semi final Janice is preparing a “Wedding Rehersal”.

Nothing gets la famiglia Tripepi more excited than a Tripepi wedding. The hint of one starts a tsunami of wedding related celebrations. New suits are the order of the day as uncles and cousins have either grown in height but mostly in girth and the ladies rush around ordering wedding regalia. Bridesmaids and flower girls all in a row are paired with best friends and cousins and the mere mention of a pre-wedding gathering requires food and lots of it. Aunties’ line up offering up their specialities for bridal showers and bachelor weekends and all this is wrapped up in massive bows of laughter.

The wedding rehearsal dinner is the last dinner before the big event and must be special as it serves to unite two families as one with the promise of a beautiful future and hopefully a few more Tripepi bambini. This summer wedding, set on the sun kissed shores of KwaZulu Natal is a seafood celebration. My wedding rehearsal dinner menu is light yet celebratory and will take these two families by the hand and join them together on a seafood adventure. Benvenuti nella famiglia …

Janice’s Menu – Wedding rehearsal

Insalata di Frutti di Mare (Seafood Salad)
Calamari Ripieni
Dorado in Padella con Fettuccine
Sugo di Finocchi e Porri (Fennel and Leek Pasta Sauce)
Fragole al Cinzano con Zabaglione

Mama Tripepi, busy in the kitchen, cruised through her elimination round

The third member of the semi final contest is seasoned campaigner Nina Timm of My Easy Cooking. Nina lives, breathes and dreams food but most importantly is very good with it. The young upstart Kristy Snell gave her a run for her money in round one of the competition and Nina will have to cook against her once again as fate pits them together in the semi finals.

Nina will be preparing a menu “Celebrating Being A Woman” for her semi final.

Today I celebrate being a woman and I am celebrating with three very special women who have/had the most impact on my life. My Mom, my sister and my friend.

They have helped, supported and rejoiced with me throughout my life. They are with me, always, though the ebbs and the flows of my life. I can always rely on them and I trust them completely.

They are all so uniquely special and I cannot imagine my life without them. Today is my turn to treat them to something special… A tea in my garden!

Nina’s Menu – Celebrating being a Woman

Granadilla Mousse Cake
Mini Quiche Assortment
Festive Meringue Roulade
Smoked Kipper and Watercress Sandwiches

Aubrey, Fernando and Leila are the judges on the day and Aub’s is on fire if “that spinach is a disgrace” is anything to go by.

As in the two previous semi final contests the judges will be scoring the menu’s and blogs with the top scoring bloggers over the three cook off’s progressing through to the finals!
