In a move that that has taken everybody around the world by surprise, former employees of Gordon Ramsay are suing him.

Former employees of The Fat Cow in Los Angeles, Jennifer Becerra, Montinique Dever, Andrea Bourke and Lauren Benge say that they were not properly compensated for overtime hours and were forced to work through meal times and other breaks.

During the Class Period, Defendants have:
(1) required Class Members to work through their meal and rest periods without paying compensation for missed meal and rest breaks;
(2) failed to pay Class Members minimum wages for all hours worked;
(3) failed to pay Class Members premium compensation for all overtime hours worked;
(4) failed to pay Class Members all wages due at termination and/or resignation;
(5) failed to maintain and provide Class Members with proper documentation concerning their hours worked and their compensation;
(6) converted the property of the Class Members; and (7) committed unfair business practices in an effort to increase profits and to gain an unfair business advantages at the expense of the Class Members and the public.

A spokesperson for Ramsay told Radar Online, “we are aware there was a problem with [The Fat Cow's] previous management which has since been changed, but this is totally unacceptable if any truth to it.”

One of Jamie’s Italian restaurants has been fined R115 000 for serving wheat pasta to a customer with celiac disease in what has been described as a ‘terrible mix up’.

The incident took place in 2001 when Kristy Richardson visited Jamie’s Italian in Portsmouth, England. When ordering her pasta she asked three different staff members to make sure she was served gluten free pasta but still ended up with regular pasta.

She suffers from celiac disease in which the immune system reacts to gluten causing damage to the small intestine.

As a result of the failure of the restaurant to serve her what she requested she fell ill suffering from vomiting and nausea.

To complicate matters even more she was on a transplant list waiting for a heart and a lung. Due to the condition brought on by the regular pasta she had to be temporarily removed from the list.

The Mail Online reports that a judge fined Jamie’s Italian £8,000 for breaching food safety laws and ordered it to pay £9,212 costs.

Prosecutor Malcolm Gibney, for Portsmouth City Council Trading Standards, said: ‘Mrs Richardson and her husband attended for lunch for their wedding anniversary with the intention of having an enjoyable meal.

‘Mrs Richardson was diagnosed as a coeliac sufferer at the age of 19 and is very conscious of her diet.

‘She wanted to check that the restaurant could serve a gluten free meal and she suffers from a number of other illnesses so wanted to ensure the staff knew what her needs were.

‘She spoke to the maitre d’ and was assured that gluten free pasta could be provided, so an order was placed and consumed.

‘But within a couple of hours Mrs Richardson started to feel nauseous and continued to vomit over the next four or five hours.

‘As a result she suffered a very nasty reaction and an auto-immune response to other medication she had.’

Jamies Italian pleaded guilty to “selling food not of the nature, substance or quality demanded by a purchaser”.

Research by health campaigners claims that patrons are served too much salt in their food at restaurants.

They name Gordon Ramsay, Jamie Oliver, Raymond Blanc and Marco Pierre White amongst others as being guilty of too much salt in their food.

The Mail Online reports that the game meatballs at one of Jamie’s restaurants contained nearly 1 1/2 times the maximum daily recommended allowance. It contained the equivalent of 20 bags of ready salted crisps.

The study did qualify it’s report by saying that salt levels could vary according to the chef on duty and praised Jamie for his work in reducing salt in meals.

At the Savoy Grill, owned by Gordon Ramsay the steamed mussels with cider cream sauce and chips contained 7.3g of salt, more than a gram over the recommended daily allowance. of 6g.

A selection of three main meals were analysed at six celebrity chef restaurants; the Brasserie Blanc by Raymond Blanc, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Frankie’s by Marco Pierre White, Jamie’s Italian by Jamie Oliver, Fifteen by Jamie Oliver, and the Savoy Grill by Gordon Ramsay.

On average Jamie’s Italian had the highest level of salt in their three dishes tested, whilst Heston’s Dinner was shown to have the lowest.

The recommended daily allowance for salt is 6g

The Mirror reports that the two 13 year old boys took part in an under 14 session at the Chelsea training ground.

Jack Ramsay, whose dad, Gordon was part of the Glasgow Rangers youth set up is reportedly a promising young footballer.

Celebrity Chef Jamie Oliver sliced his way into the Guinness World Records for chopping the most chillies in 30 seconds.

The event which formed part of the launch of his new You Tube channel, Jamie Oliver’s Food Tube.

Jamie chopped a total of 10 chillies inside the 30 second mark to take the Guinness World Record for chopping chillies.

His rival, Chef Contaldo only managed a paltry 5.

The David Beckham of food, Jamie Oliver has signed up with reigning Premier League Champions Manchester City.

Not on a football contract as I am sure you would all have immediately realised but in the kitchen.

Jamie Oliver.com reports that Fabulous Feasts, Jamie’s catering business, has gone into partnership with Legends Hospitality at the Etihad Stadium to create Fabulous Fan Fare.

This new partnership will provide hospitality and catering services including all public concessions, hospitality areas and the City Square fan zone as well as non-match event catering.

Kick off is in August and the contract will run for five years.

The Sun reports that Gordon Ramsay treated himself to a special Christmas present, a R200 000 Rolex watch, while Tana was sent shopping elsewhere.

Gordon Ramsay spoils himself with a Rolex Submariner for £15,000.

The British tabloid newspaper claims that a source said, “He left his wife Tana to do other shopping before the big day and popped to the Vintage Watch Company in London to buy himself a rare Submariner model.”

“He said he was looking for himself when he was in the store and he likes it because his pal David Beckham’s wife Victoria loves the place too.”

The watch he bought is a rare Submariner model, which was first designed in the 1950′s for diving.

Ian Fleming chose Rolex as the James Bond timepiece of choice and when it came to making ‘Dr No’ a particular model had to be chosen, something that Ian Flemming had not specified in the novels.

Jamie Oliver along with Diane Sawyer and ABC is being sued by a former employee of Beef Products Inc.

Bruce Smith was retrenched by Beef Inc following the furore over “Pink Slime” following the broadcast by ABC of a Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolutiom in which he exposed the technology employed in produced what was labelled “Pink Slime” and the investigative news reports that followed.

Pink Slime is known in the industry as lean beef trimmings which are made up of the remnants of a cow carcass once all the muscular cuts have been removed.

The lean meat is separated from the fat using a centrifuge and because the meat is coming from areas of the cow which are more likely to be infected with microbes it is treated with ammonium hydroxide to kill the microbes off. It removes pathogens like salmonella and E.coli.

Beef Products Inc. closed down three plants earlier in the year in Texas, Kansas and Iowa in addition to laying off staff it’s headquarters in South Dakota.

The lawsuit names as defendants American Broadcasting Companies, Inc, ABC News, ABC News journalists Diane Sawyer and Jim Avila, Oliver, food blogger Bettina Siegel and ten unnamed defendants.

The plaintiff claims that the defendants knowingly and recklessly made untrue statements about the product during newscasts.

Defendant Oliver proceeded to use his celebrity chef media notoriety to place pressure on American fast food company McDonald’s, and others, to immediately stop using LFTB ground beef in its retail menu food products

McDonald’s and other major fast food chains stopped using the product following the broadcast of the show and the public uproar that followed.

Beef Products Inc has already commenced a lawsuit against ABC News, Diane Sawyer and Jim Avila for defamation over its coverage of the product.

The Beef Products Inc. lawsuit is seeking $1.2 billion in damages.

Bruse Smith who was the companies senior counsel and Director of Environment, Health & Safety is only seeking $70,000 in damages, which keeps the lawsuit in the local Dakota County District Court in Nebraska.

If I sued for more, I would likely be forced to move the case to federal court in Omaha, Neraska. I want the people I have sued. I want them here in the locality where the damage is done

Beef Products Inc. said the company lost 80 percent of its business in 28 days. Some of the customers have returned but BPI still doesn’t have the customer base that would allow it to rehire former employees.

The UK’s second biggest selling author of all time, openly admitted to the Independent that he has never finished reading a book in his life.

The article titled, ‘My Secret Life’, posed a variety of questions to the world famous cook amongst which was the question, which book changed him.

I’ve never read a book in my life, which I know sounds incredibly ignorant but I’m dyslexic and I get bored easily. The one book I nearly finished was Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain. But then the author came to Britain and didn’t stop slagging me off for five years. So on principle I threw it on the fire. He’s since apologised and we’ve made up. I should probably read the rest now.

He also revealed that he’s no good at poaching eggs but is very good at basket weaving and when he was a child he wanted to be a carpenter.

Well when it comes to poaching eggs you are not alone Jamie, but not reading a book… we certainly wish you were alone on that one. It is simply bizarre that the UK’s second biggest selling author of all time is happy for everyone to buy and read his books when he won’t read anybody else’s, dyslexia aside.

The chef claims that by soaking up the juices in his mouth with a tampon he enjoys the ‘richness, creaminess and sweetness’ of the food much more.

Blumenthal told the Guardian: ‘If you drain the moisture in your mouth you experience richness, creaminess and sweetness more intensely and there is really nothing more absorbing than a tampon.”

‘If you have a spoonful of ice-cream then put a tampon on the tongue for a couple of minutes when you eat the ice-cream again the taste will be richer.’

The Michelin Star Chef was introduced to the idea when he met oral physiologist Don Prince at a Netherlands food research centre in Wageningen.

He reportedly described Mr Prince as ‘brilliant but mad’ and said they had ‘played around’ with different tampons as they tested their absorbency.

The Michelin-starred chef admitted that people might think it was weird to put a tampon in their mouths, but said that if unused it was only an absorbent piece of material.

There will however be no tampons being served as taste aids at any of his restaurants.

Jamie Oliver says 30,000 napkins per month depart his restaurants in diner’s pockets and handbags.

Jamie Oliver accredits these thefts to the current economic conditions and thinks that maybe the dinners consider them entitled to a little more than dinner.

The napkins can also be purchased from Jamie’s Italian in packs of four for £8 but why pay for something when you can simply slip it into your pocket or handbag during the chaos of a dinner service at a packed restaurant.

Quite often the napkins can then be found selling on eBay for as much as £8.00 each!

It gets worse though, the most bizarre item to get stolen from his restaurants are the toilets

Jamie told the Radio Times, “Every restaurant of mine has the old-fashioned Thomas Crapper toilets because I’ve always thought they look wicked. But they’re really expensive and we’ve had to have the handles and flushers welded on because people were unscrewing them and nicking them. Honestly, some people were coming out for a meal and going home with half a toilet. Bonkers!”

And now you know where the word, “crap” originates from… Mr Thomas Crapper, the inventor of the flushing toilet!

Beef Products Inc, a South Dakota processing firm, is suing the broadcaster ABC for spreading “false and defamatory” information about ‘Pink Slime’, which it describes as lean, finely textured beef.

Beef Products Inc claims that ABC misled viewers into believing that its products were not safe and not healthy because they carry less fat than normal beef..

They claim that due to the ‘unfair’ coverage its sales dropped by 80% resulting in the closure of three plants and 700 employees were made redundant.

The company claims that it is still losing $20 million per month in revenue.

Dan Webb, Beef Products Inc’s attorney in Chicago, said that Oliver had kicked off a campaign in which ABC “decided to destroy this business, and decimated its product in the marketplace”.

“Through nearly 200 false, misleading and defamatory statements, repeated continuously during a month-long disinformation campaign, ABC and other individuals knowingly misled consumers into believing that LFTB was not beef and not safe for public consumption, which is completely false,”

The Beef Products Inc website claims their product is safe and explains why.

A spokesman for Jamie Oliver declined to comment but ABC issued a statement claiming: “The lawsuit is without merit. We will contest it vigorously.”

DAKOTA DUNES, SD (Sept. 13, 2012) – BPI Technology, Inc., Beef Products, Inc., and Freezing Machines, Inc. (collectively, “BPI”) filed a suit against the American Broadcast Companies, Inc. (ABC), ABC News, Inc., three ABC News reporters, and others for knowingly and intentionally publishing false and disparaging statements regarding BPI and the lean finely textured beef (LFTB) it makes. BPI alleges that ABC and others launched a concerted disinformation campaign against the companies, which had a significant adverse affect on BPI’s reputation, as well as a significant negative financial impact on the companies.

“For more than 30 years, our family has built and operated companies that are committed to providing consumers with wholesome, safe and nutritious lean beef. We’ve created thousands of good jobs for Americans and our lean finely textured beef has made the leaner ground beef that consumers desire more affordable,” said Eldon Roth, founder and CEO of BPI. “The blatantly false and disparaging statements made about our lean beef have done more than hurt my family and our companies, they have jeopardized the future of our employees and their families.”

In their complaint, filed Thursday in Circuit Court in Union County, South Dakota, BPI alleges that ABC and the individuals named in the suit knowingly made false, defamatory and disparaging statements regarding BPI and LFTB during a disinformation campaign this spring. These statements were made even after BPI and others sent ABC factual information about LFTB, including conclusions from USDA, FDA, food safety organizations and numerous beef industry experts that LFTB is a safe, nutritious lean beef. As result of the disinformation campaign, BPI sales declined from approximately five million pounds of LFTB per week to less than two million pounds per week, three BPI facilities have closed and more than 700 employees lost their jobs.

“Through nearly 200 false, misleading and defamatory statements, repeated continuously during a month-long disinformation campaign, ABC and other individuals knowingly misled consumers into believing that LFTB was not beef and not safe for public consumption, which is completely false,” said Dan Webb, Chairman, Winston & Strawn LLP. “BPI has filed suit because their business has been severely damaged by this conduct. As a result, we will be asking a jury to award BPI over one billion dollars in compensatory and statutory damages, plus punitive damages.” BPI seeks to recover damages for defamation, product and food disparagement, and tortious interference with business relationships.

Celebrity Chef Marco Pierre Whites wife, Mati Conjero has been charged with vandalising his car with a child’s scooter.

The couple met in 1992, married in 2000 and began divorce proceedings in 2007 but brought them to a halt the following year after running up legal fees of £3 million.

The marriage broke down over allegations of an affair and assault, which was later withdrawn.

The Godfather of modern cooking, Marco Pierre White’s battle with Mati Conjero continues, this time it takes to the street.

The incident is alleged to have happened in May when Mati Conjero used a child’s scooter to inflict damage on his Range Rover while it was parked outside his £2.5 million Holland Park flat in London.

Conjero lives in a flat above a pizza restaurant in Chiswick, West London.

She has pleaded not guilty to criminal damage and is due to appear before Isleworth Crown Court in October.

Gordon Ramsay heads back to court over breach of privacy.

Gordon Ramsay is never far from a court house and is now being sued by his father-in-law’s ex-mistress Sara Stewart, claiming that Ramsay hired a private detective to take intimate photographs of her through her bedroom window.

Sara Stewart, a widowed mother of four, had a five year affair with Gordon Ramsay’s father in law, Chris Hutcheson.

She worked for Gordon Ramsay Holdings for 12 years where Chris Hutcheson was the Chief Executive of the company.

Mrs Stewart alleges that intimate photographs were taken of her with Mr Hutcheson and that Gordon Ramsay threatened to make them public.

Gordon Ramsay is heading back to court, this time in relation to intimate photographs taken of his father-in-law and Sara Stewart.

In October 2010 Ramsay sacked his father-in-law in relation to financial mismanagement and for hacking into his personal emails and fired Sara Stewart.

Following the sacking Ramsay is alleged to have sent an SMS to Chris Hutcheson’s son saying, ‘Please tell Sarah to close her curtains in Ascot there’s a footpath right outside her window. Shots are amazing. Happy to pass the whole ******* lot to the NOTW [News Of The World] . . . ps I’ve also got a [memory] stick for your PC if you want to see the most amazing footage.’

Mrs Stewart claims that when she emailed Ramsay with concerns regarding the impact the photographs would have on her children he replied by sending her a photograph showing her topless with Mr Hutcheson.

Later, in November 2001 Ramsay admitted in a letter to his mother-in-law that he had hired private detectives to watch his father-in-law in relation to the suspicions he had of financial misconduct and the hacking of person e-mails.

In the letter he wrote, ‘To curb my suspicions I employed a private detective and the situation started to unravel very quickly. The very complex life that Chris leads has seen many of my key staff feeling that they had to cover on his behalf. His away days were rarely what I thought they were.’

The case will be heard in the high court later this year.

Gordon Ramsay plans to make a second series of his show teaching convicts how to cook in women’s prison.

The first series of Gordon Behind Bars, was filmed at HMP Brixton, where he taught inmates how to cook and set up a bakery business.

It garnered an audience of around 2.9m when it debuted in the UK and despite admitting how difficult the series was to create, Ramsay, based on those numbers no doubt is ready to do it again but this time he is considering going to a woman’s prison.

Ramsay said, “There is an idea about going into a ladies’ prison which would be interesting”.

“And I would definitely go back to Brixton.”

The foul mouthed celebrity chef has received support from the British Prime Minister, David Cameron, who wants to get more prisoners working and reportedly asked Ramsay how it was going when they met up at a charity event.

Ramsay said, “He asked how it was going and I said that it was tough and that I found it harder than I had expected,”

“We have sent the business plan in and are following everything up because it needs supporting.”

“Think of all of those people in prison and barely ten per cent are getting anywhere near work. I believe there are massive missed opportunities in prisons.”
